Longbow and Scandi Knife
This project involved the creation of a longbow and a scandi knife as a matching pair. The longbow uses caramelised bamboo limb veneers with a Red Ironbark and Brushbox riser. Nock tips were made from denim micarta
Wildwood Traditional Archery
These bows are part of a standard range that I build for Wildwood Traditional Archery. They feature Tasmanian Blackwood outer laminations and a Bamboo core. The riser timbers are either Red Ironbark or Yellow Stringybark. The left handed bow (which is upside down to show the arrow shelf) features a leather grip cover.
Made for a friend...
I made this bow for a special friend. Riser is built from American Walnut and European Beech. Limbs are caramelised bamboo. This bow is 62" drawing 29lb and was designed for lighter weight target arrows.
Red Ironbark and Bamboo
The riser for this bow is made from Red Ironbark. The accent stripe is from bamboo with black spacers running either side. The limbs of this bow are 4 laminations of white bamboo.
Red Ironbark is a very hard dense timber. For heavy weight bows where the limbs take on more mass, I like to use Red Ironbark in the riser as it helps to prevent vibration into the hand.

Timbers from the family farm...
The timbers in this bow were supplied by the customer. The Mallee Burl and the Salmon Gum were two timbers that were collected from the family farm decades prior to this bow being built. The customer wanted to use these timbers to embody part of the family farm into the bow. Limbs are 4 laminations of bamboo under black fiberglass.
Jarrah and Yellow Stringybark
Jarrah is a dark red timber. It shows a grainy patten, however the colour is fairly consistent throughout.
Jarrah and Brushbox
Brushbox ranges from light to mid brown. Sometimes it can take on a slightly pink hue. The grain is very subtle.

Wenge
The timber for this riser is Wenge - an African timber. Bamboo limbs sandwiched between black glass makes for a stunning bow.
Snake motif
This bow was made for a customer who was a handler of venomous snakes. We formulated an idea to have a snake motif to represent a Red-Bellied Black snake. The Wenge snake is bordered with red fibre spacers.
Bamboo Backed Grey Ironbark
Sometimes I leave the fiberglass on the rack and build something different. This bow has a backing of bamboo over a belly of Grey Ironbark. At 64" and 50lb it was a nice snappy bow. It was custom built as a field bow for a client who was moving out of the world of compound bows and back into the traditional side of the sport.
