Building with Soul
Our relationships with others have the ability to enliven or hamper our creativity. Words of encouragement or condemnation from others are very powerful motivators in our life journeys. Our response is a very personal one and one that we do not often fully understand. The same comment made by different people may bring out very polar responses in us. We may equally be enraged into better performance or perhaps encouraged to do so.
The buildings in our lives have a similar ability. We might compare two small buildings; finding one cosy and the other cramped. What is it that can create these opposing responses?
I believe that the buildings in which we live and work are stamped with the spirit of those who have designed and created them. The materials that are employed in their construction contribute to the mood as they reflect the environment that provided them.
The workshop I am building is stamped with the spirit of ingenuity and determination that I have had to muster to complete this project largely on my own. The timbers have been sourced from the forests of the local area and reflect the ruggedness of the bushland environment and the strength and honesty of the Creator who has provided for us.
This is not your average workshop, and I never intended it to be. People who have stopped by in its construction have commented that ‘they could live there’. I could too.
It is a building with soul that over the century to come will be filled with story after story. One day it may just be the little house that others have desired, or maybe a music studio, or weekend retreat from city life for a couple needing a rest. For the moment, I will remain content to accept its shelter as I carefully craft my bows.
